Red and gold are the two most ultimate color to represent the occasion.The chinese characters written on the banners are all about welcoming prosperity and wealth. This is one of the most famous temple in Phuket. It is Phuket’s most important Buddhist temple and is the biggest and most ornate of Phuket’s 29 Buddhist monasteries. Here's the main hall. Many Thais come here to be blessed by the monks and receive a good luck charm in the form of a string tied around the wrist, which they believe would protect them from injury and illness.

I took this in a restaurant by Karon Beach, Phuket. Guess what happened on my first night there? BLACKOUT. The entire Karon was in darkness...How bad can my holiday be? Hahaha... Luckily, my friends and I were having dinner in a restaurant then. Outside was raining heavily. Plus the blackout, how miserable do you think I am?? Nevertheless, we managed to make fun of it. The owner brought out candles for the tables. Since, we had finished our food and were also trapped in the restaurant, I played around with my cam. Imagine me trying to take a sharp photo in darkness without using a tripod. This is the only sharp one and I really like it. However, I've not decided on a suitable title for it.

I'm back from Thailand. My friends and I went island hopping everyday. This was taken at Krabi. Lovely sunset isn't it? We were taking photos crazily because you can never see this in Singapore. Developed this photo at a shop in Krabi and the vendor commented that this can be made into a postcard. I'm absolutely flattered.

I wanted to buy a new tripod today. But I was a slow coach and didn't have enough time. In the end, I went out to meet my darling for dinner. Nevertheless, I brought my small camera along just in case. I'm really lucky I guess. On the bus, I saw a perfect sky. Gosh, the clouds and the blue was so beautiful. I have to take a picture! Got down the bus and went up a block of flat to take photos of the great evening sky. Pity I didn't have my canon cam with me. Here's what I have to show.

Went down to Oh Chin Huat Hydroponics farm this afternoon to recee for a geography fieldtrip. This is the outdoor classroom there. How nice it would be if classes are conducted here, right? The air is clean, and one is free from electronic distractions, especially the computer and Xbox. I guess this is one of the last 'rural' place in Singapore. The presence of the Coca Cola vending machine just betrayed its rustic feel.

As you can see, it's obviously low-tide. At around 4 plus in the afternoon, I think. It's taken at the Pasir Ris Beach located at the far-eastern side of Singapore. There's actually a boy standing on the exposed swamp. A pity I didn't have telephoto lens to zoom in on him. The little black dot in the centre of the photo is him. (if you can see)

I went out to Little India with my colleagues to recee for a fieldtrip we've got to plan for a group of geog students. Went up to a nearby block of flats to get an aerial view of Little India. This is what I saw. Remember the coloured flats I posted some time ago? It's very noticeable among the sea of red-tiled roofs.

I had a rough week. And it ended with a grand finale. I hurt my forehead on the wall, fell, hit the floor, and injured my right elbow while I tried to break the fall. Sigh... now my right elbow is in bandage. =( This is a photo I took at the Bukit Gombak Town Park. Was there on a geographical fieldtrip to study rocks coz this place is an abandoned quarry. This is a simple local dish. White radish is first grated, mixed with flour and water, then steamed. Then, it's chopped into little square pieces and fried with egg. And this is Singapore's version of fried carrot cake! I tried to take a picture of it with the steam rising, but didn't succeed. hmmm... under what conditions can I capture steam?

This was taken on a hot sunny cloudless afternoon. I just can't resist the vibrant colours of the 4 blocks of flats in the background. They were supposedly to be old flats, constructed during the early years. However, they have been injected with a new life through estate upgrading and (obviously) a fresh coat of paint! If you are not aware, most Singaporeans stay in flats, similar to what is in the photo. Maybe I should go around Singapore and take photos of the interestingly designed flats! (if I have time...but work is piling)

This was taken impromptu, while I was waiting at the traffic lights. I hope I don't offend anyone but it's really not easy to take pictures of dark skin people. I'm not racist, but my limited skills made it a challenging task. I had to adjust the curve to show more features of the Indian fortune teller on the left. He uses a little green bird to help his fortune telling. How does it work? The customer has to shuffle a pack of cards and lay them out on the table. Then, the bird is released from the cage, and picks out a card to which the fortune teller wld then use it to decipher the customer's future. The guy on the right looks like his friend I think.

The Singapore fireworks festival has finally come to a close. I went down to Marina City Park last night with Sufang and Say Keat. The fireworks put up by the France team were great, though not as fantastic as the ones by Portugal. Hence, we were rather disappointed. In addition, there was no wind at all to blow the smoke away. As a result, most of my pics either turned out to be smoky or over-exposed. Argh... Here's a shot taken at the beginning of the fireworks show when there wasn't much smoke.

Here's a picture of a second-hand market near Rocher street. I believed the goods sold here have passed through many hands actually. Lots of things can be found, ranging from clothes, handphones, cameras, cds, bags, glasses, trophies, plugs etc. Anything you name it. The main reason I took this picture is because I was attracted by that lady scratching her feet. heh... But I didn't dare to aim my camera at her directly, so her role as the main subject was undermined.

I should have taken that glass away, but I had to catch her unaware. Singapore fireworks festival

I was quite high yesterday night.
First, I went to Little India to take pictures with Sufang. That place is not as 'Indian' as I thought.
Nevertheless, i managed to take a lot of photos =) very tired though.
Then we went over to Marina City Park to prepare for the night: Singapore Fireworks Festival!
It was a really a big guessing game for all the photographers and photography enthusiasts. Nobody knew the exact spot where the fireworks will be shot!? Lots of photographers went to the marina promenade, some on sheares bridge and some at the park. Sufang and I wondered for a while at the park. We saw a boat with 2 army guys patrolling the waters, and slowly, the other ships and boats disappear. We decided to stay at that spot. Not many people were there, or rather, not many photographers were there. And we waited....when the first shot was fired, I was so stunned and happy! Coz the entire display was right in front of us!!! Can u believe how lucky we were??!! It's like having the best seats u can get in the theatre. The fireworks put up by the portugal team were spectacular! I hadn't had much time to process the pictures. Some were unfortunately slightly tilted =( So, before I have time to process them, here's a simple one.
Anyway, I thoroughly enjoyed myself. We also took the boat ride back to clifford pier and took more night shots. I just need TIME to choose the better ones. And now, back to work (damn..).

Nasi Lemak

I can't believe it! I've been browsing Fujiwara's Diner for so long and it never dawn on me to take photographs of Singapore's famous dishes! So, this is my first entry on food. *Tada...!* Nasi Lemak! A local malay dish enjoyed by all racial groups in Singapore. This is a standard package containing a fried chicken wing, egg, fried ikan bilis (small tiny fishes on the right), otah (long red piece on the far right), cucumber and chili (must have!!). Otah is made up of a mixture of fish paste and chili. It is then spread onto a long piece of banana leaf and baked over fire. Of course, not forgetting the coconut rice below. Coconut milk, instead of water, is being used to cook the fragrant rice. There are many other side dishes to choose from as well. Such a package only cost S$2.40. Very cheap. One important thing to note is that this is a very high cholesterol meal, as you can see for yourself. Hence, it's not to be taken daily if you don't intend to get fat. Nevertheless, it is a must-try when you come to Singapore!
Note: this was my lunch an hour ago.

Here's another shot I took last Saturday at the National Day Parade Preview. The waterfront at night! Beautiful? On the right is the Esplanade, in the middle is a bridge, a little left is the Fullerton hotel and the far left is the CBD where many tall office buildings stood. On that day, the rooftop lights of the Esplanade were turned off possibly due to the Parade held behind it. It wld have been prettier if the lights were on. There weren't many boats on the water because the fireworks will shoot from the centre of the river. Therefore, it's kinda dangerous.

This is a photo I took somewhere off Chinatown. I heard that this uniquely shaped building has a very long history as reflected on top 1939. It has now been repainted of course. The ground floor is a traditional coffee shop, but I have no idea what takes place above. It lies in between Teck Lim Rd on the left and Keong Saik Rd on the right. Keong Saik Rd used to be the old red light district of early Singapore if I'm not wrong. The name of the building as painted right in front is pronounced as 'Ya Dong'. No idea what it means though.

Sufang and I went down to the waterfront area to capture the fireworks of the National Day Parade Preview. It rained heavily in the afternoon and was also very cloudy at night. There wasn't any wind to blow the smoke away, so most of my shots were 'smoky' =( This is the best of all my shots I think. However, I had to crop it. Hope I get better shots at the fireworks festival next weekend.

This is the main village of Pulau Ubin where people gather for various activities. On the left, there is a bicycle shop where we rented our bikes for 4 bucks a day. The umbrella stands at the back are the drinks stalls where you can try the fresh coconuts for just 2 bucks. There's a chinese temple behind and three different seafood shops in the background.

bumboats

These are the bumboats we took in order to get to Pulau Ubin. The jetty is in the background. It has been renovated and has changed from wooden structures to concrete buildings equipped with air-condition, shops and nice, clean restrooms. hmmm....I still reminise the previous jetty though I'm really grateful of the clean and big restrooms now. The ride to Ubin is about 10 minutes and it only costs $2 per person.

rustic Singapore

Can you believe that this picture was taken in Singapore? Well, not the mainland Singapore of course! I went down to Pulau Ubin today with Fang. [Pulau is a malay word for island, while Ubin is the name] This is the only remaining place where you can use the word "rustic". However, I can see that Pulau Ubin is slowly undergoing changes. I seriously hope that it won't end up like a concrete jungle. We need the natural green, not potted plants. Meanwhile, I shall preserve it's beauty in photographs here.

Yao Ming and Me

Well, this is the first picture of ME here. haha.... decided to put up this funny picture. Of course, this picture is not taken by me. But I had set up my camera on a tripod so all my mum had to do was to press the button. I guess this guy is easily recognisable everywhere. That's right, its Yao Ming, taken at the Madame Tussauds Wax Museum in Hong Kong.

father and sons

This is the first family-related photograph here. It's taken at the Jurong Bird Park. I was coming down from the panorail station when I saw this father and his two sons sitting by the pond. The two kids were very curious to find out more about the koi fishes. You only need to pay a few cents to buy the fish feed from the box by the pond. Gosh, those kois are really lucky and fat. erm.... do you think the contrast is too great? I'm a little disturbed by the bright areas...don't know how to make it better.

The stone dragon

The dragon, a mythical creature with strong connotations of the chinese culture. This creature is often associated with the ancient emperor, as they always referred themselves to the dragon, son of the heaven. The dragon is also associated with water and is believed to be able to bring rain. It's representations can be found in all forms of art, from stone carvings (what you see here), sculptures, emblems, portraits etc.

This is in line with the one I put up 4 days ago. LV, Celine, Fendi were all side by side each other. Oh, I really need to get my butt out to take photos this weekend. I've been wanting to take sunset or sunrise photographs. I've got to do this soon before my workload piles up. However, I've yet to figure out a good place to take sunset photos. sigh...
