The boat people

This is a shot of the boat people living on the seas of Aberdeen. They earn their living by selling cooked noodles. They actually do not have legal status as Hongkongers because they used to be refugees. The Hong Kong govt have been trying to move them out for years. Finally, this is going to happen soon. According to my local guide, they are going to move and stay permanently on land. Their legal status is a big problem. However, the children of the boat people who were born in Hong Kong are given legal status and allowed to go to govt schs on land.

I think they've been trying to move them out for decades. They were there in the 60s, when I was a kid, as my dad took us there a lot to eat. Yummy food btw!

Thanks for the trip down memory lane. :-)

People live sometimes in very harsh conditions. It is difficult when you don't have legal status.
Good HK is working on a solution for them.
